Neil Brown is the president of The Poynter Institute. He joined Poynter in September 2017, after serving more than 20 years as managing editor, executive editor and then editor and vice president of the Tampa Bay Times, the largest newspaper in the southeast United States. During Brown's tenure leading the Times newspaper and digital efforts, the paper won more national and state awards than at any time in its history, including six Pulitzer Prizes in the last eight years. Brown launched PolitiFact.com, the fact-checking website created by the Times that has been a leader in American fact-check journalism and active supporter of similar efforts worldwide.
